Virginia Walhus

Virginia Leona Walhus, 83, of Decorah and formerly of Spring Grove, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah.

She was born February 27, 1920 in Spring Grove to Alfred and Benora (Rauk) Otterness. She was a lifelong area resident. In December of 1942 she married Elvin Walhus, he died on March 30, 1992. She and her husband farmed in rural Spring Grove.

She enjoyed making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and relatives for special occasions. She liked long drives, trips to flower shops, remembering with friends about the olden days and playing the piano. She enjoyed visiting her sonsí farms. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.

She is survived by her step-mother, Violet Otterness; two sons, Lowell (Marion) and Russell (Debbie) both of Spring Grove; one grandchild; five step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Iver, Orvin and Alfred Otterness, Jr; and one son, Leighton.

Services will be Monday, December 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial will be in the Trinity Church Cemetery. Pastor Zane Anderson will officiate. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
