The Houston County Sheriffís Office has been officially served with a summons and complaint by Linda Coffield, Houston County Attorney Rick Jackson told The Argus on December 15.

A closed meeting was scheduled on Tuesday, December 16 at the Houston County board meeting to discuss the litigation.

Attorney Jackson said he had received notification of the complaint on Monday, December 15. He had not actually viewed the complaint, and so could not speak to its allegations.

Coffield, who has been a deputy with the Sheriffís office for 14 years, had recently withdrawn a complaint from the Minnesota Department of Human Rights alleging discrimination based on sex and reprisal.

Dyan Ebert, an attorney with Quinlivan and Hughes, who is representing the county, told The Argus that they are taking the complaint very seriously, but are denying any wrongdoing. ìI donít believe there was any discrimination,î she said on December 10.
