Posted: 12/23/03

Justin Robert Meyer will be arraigned in District Court in Allamakee County Court on December 29 at 10 a.m. on kidnapping charges.

First Judicial District of Iowa Judge John Bauercamper signed the order, which stated that evidence was sufficient to warrant a conviction by a trial jury.

Meyer, who will likely enter a plea at the arraignment, is accused of kidnapping in the first degree, a Class A felony, punishable by life in prison without parole.

He is being held on $750,000 cash bond at the Fayette County Jail in West Union, Iowa. If convicted, he would face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Allamakee County Attorney William J. Shafer filed information trial information on the case on December 15.

The kidnapping of a woman and her 10-month-old infant allegedly took place on December 8 in Caledonia.

Meyer has also been charged with two alternate counts of second degree murder for the shooting death of Mark Sullivan prior to the kidnapping. Each carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

Houston County Attorney Rick Jackson has requested Meyerís extradition. He said on December 17 that he did not know when Meyer would appear in Houston County Court, because Iowa has the right to retain him until prosecution.
