Boy injured after fall from cliff on ATV

Alex Engstler, 12, of La Crescent is lucky to be alive after falling 50 to 60 feet over a cliff at Botcherís Rock Quarry located north of Houston.

The accident happened on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27 at 10:20 am when he lost control of the ATV he was driving.

He was transported by Medlink helicopter to St. Francis Medical Center in La Crosse. Houston Emergency Services (EMS) and the Houston Police Department responded to the scene.

As of Monday, December 1, Engstler is doing much better and it is hoped that he will go home by today, Wednesday, December 3.

He will be returning in a wheelchair and wonít be able to walk for awhile.

Engstler sustained a broken right femur, a fractured wrist and an injury to the left ankle that will require some pins and screws. He received no spinal or back injuries, and sustained only a few cuts and bruises to the head.

His mother, Wanda Palmer, said he was lucky it wasnít worse. ìWeíre thankful that heís here and will get better,î she said.
