Melvin Britson

Melvin L. Britson, 96, of Houston, MN, died Thursday, December 4, 2003, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. Melvin was born on February 19, 1907, in Houston to Albert and Christine (Traff) Britson. He was raised in Looney Valley and attended Upper Looney Valley School. On August 4, 1930, he married Lizzie Strand in Spring Grove.

Melvin farmed most of his life in the Houston area. He loved working on the farm and was a very talented farm mechanic. After retiring, Melvin and Lizzie moved to Houston where he lived up until the time of his death. Melvin was a lifelong member of the Looney Valley Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed as well as being in the church Brotherhood and church council.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 73 years, Lizzie; two sons, Virgil (Lydia) Britson of Houston, and Arnold (Edith) Britson of Waterloo, IA; one daughter, Joan (Leighton) Kragness of Rushford; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one step-great grandchild and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Melvin was preceded in death by one grandson, Steven Kragness and three brothers: Elmer, Arthur, Leonard, and seven sisters: Nettie, Ida, Nitta, Cora Pollema, Elvena, Emma, and Delia Peterson. Ý

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 8, at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston with the Rev. Curtis Fox officiating. Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Looney Valley Lutheran Church Building Fund.
