Employees of the countyís drop-off sites are now authorized to check identification of those using the sites, and to turn away non-county residents. Brian Smith, 30, of Spring Grove, was injured in an accident which occurred near the highway 44/76 junction, south of Caledonia. Superintendent James Tool informed the school board that the practice fields at the new school for football and soccer will not be ready by fall. The long-awaited Root River Bridge project begins. Loras College golfer Katrina Hammell has been named to the 2001-02 National All-Scholar Team. Hjordi Danielson and Jenna Denstad were awarded Ten-Year national honors and Paderewski Gold Medals from the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Deaths: Dr. Clarence (C.B.) Kurz, 91, Caledonia; Marion Witt, 97, Houston; Norman Hoscheit, 68, Caledonia; Avis Unnasch, 91, Houston. Week of July 24-Daniel Forrester remains in the intermediate care unit of University Hospital, Syracuse, NY, after being hit by a car the evening of July 4. The County Board approved a $45,528 phone system from Ace Communications. Dr. Sarah Herman joins Frisch Dental Clinic. Deaths: Donald Rask, 77, Caledonia. Week of July 31-A hearing on the eminent domain issue involving the extension of Esch Drive westward to the site of the new school has been set for August 14. Neil Broadwater is the new County Extension Director. Vera Hanson of Houston received outstanding senior citizen honor. Greg Mell recently graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BA degree in architecture. Todd Lemke won the Enduro at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
