Mrs. Mabel (James) Johnson, 98, of Winona, MN, died on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Saint Anne Extended Health Care, Winona. Mabel was born on August 2, 1904 in Arendahl Township, Fillmore County, MN to Hans and Mary (Johnson) Torgerson. She graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1921 and then attended Teacherís Training at Red Wing Seminary, Red Wing, and graduated in 1922. She also attended several summer sessions at Winona State University. On September 2, 1939, she married James E. Johnson at the Lutheran Parsonage in Peterson. He died on March 30, 1972. Mabel taught in rural schools of Fillmore, Houston, Ottertail and Kanabec Counties. She last taught under Superintendent Esther Boyd in Kanabec County and retired from teaching in 1963. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winona and a member of its Ladies Bible Class. Mabel is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, six sisters and three brothers. Services were Sunday, January 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. William Flesh officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona. Visitation was Sunday at the church beginning at 12:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements were completed by Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
