Norma Seibert

Norma A. Seibert, 86, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, January 11, 2003 at her home in Waukon following a lengthy illness.

Norma Anna Elizabeth Klein Seibert was born July 13, 1916 in Caledonia, the daughter of Melvin and Clara (Lee) Klein. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Caledonia, attended rural Houston County Schools, and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1934. Following school she worked as a nanny in Chicago, IL, Brownsville and Hokah. On March 20, 1946 she married John Phillip Seibert at the United Methodist Church in Caledonia. They started farming together in Ludlow Township and later added a farm near Rossville and Normaís familyís home farm near Caledonia. Norma was very much a working partner in the operation of the farms and after Johnís death in 1973, she continued to operate them with four of her sons, until moving to Waukon in 1988.

She was a member of Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon, its UPW, and Miriam Circle. She was also active in Womenís Ministries at First Baptist Church in Waukon, a member of the Allamakee County Historical Society, Friendship Club at Waukon State Bank, and the adopted grandparents program at the Waukon Schools. Norma had a wide array of special interests and took continuing education classes in chair caning, stained glass windows, upholstering, and porcelain doll making. She also did brass rubbings, flower and rock gardening, needlework and sewing, and collected antique dishes, furniture, and dolls. Holidays were a special time to decorate the house often with multiple displays of the season, and she enjoyed sharing her collections with neighbors and friends. Norma liked to travel and enjoyed trips to England and Belgium as well as to visit her children in Arizona, New York, and Florida. She loved her family very much and her favorite times were spent with her children and their families and attending their many school and church activities.

Survivors include her eight children: John Daniel (Beverly Sorenson) Seibert of Fountain, Cheryl (Lyle) Nierling of Waukon, James Klein (Linda Dahlstrom) Seibert of Waukon, Jo Ann (Larry) Gelo of Waukon, Robert Lee (Diane McMillan) Seibert of Tonawanda, NY, Howard Melvin (Rhonda Bloxham) Seibert of Waukon, Kenneth Henry (Janet Nelson) Seibert of Glendale, AZ, and Richard Willys (Elizabeth Aldrich) Seibert of Waukon; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; and three brothers, Mylo, Willys, and Kenneth Klein.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 15 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Waukon with Rev. Danny Volbrecht officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
