Audrey McGrath

Audrey McGrath, 65, a registered nurse who spent the last eight years caring for residents of Rosewood Care Center in Elgin, died Sunday, January 19, in Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born on June 8, 1937, in Caledonia, MN, the daughter of Paul and Lillian (nee Wagner) Ranzenberger. She graduated from Loretto High School in 1955 and studied nursing at St. Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse, WI. She worked as a registered nurse in Madison,WI, before moving to Illinois with her husband, the late William, to open a car dealership in Aurora. In 1977 they moved to Elgin.

Audrey enjoyed working in long-term care facilities, painting, traveling to Chicago with friends, needlepoint, and going to local casinos and often taking along residents from Rosewood Care Center. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin.

Survivors include two sons, Steve and Paul of Elgin; one grandchild; and many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; a son, Daniel James in infancy, sister Geraldine Huesmann, brother Reginald Ranzenberger and her parents.

Services were held Thursday, January 23, 11 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with the Rev. Geoffrey officiating. Burial was in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation was 4-8 Wednesday at Lair Funeral Home, Elgin and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of mass on Thursday.
