Enster Norman Haugstad, 87, of Spring Grove, died at his home on January 30, 2003. He was born October 1, 1915, in rural Spring Grove Twp. to John Haugstad and Sarah (Vick) Haugstad Wiste. He attended Spring Grove High School and was a lifelong Spring Grove area resident. On October 3, 1942, he married Gertrude Minerva Myhre at Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He worked as a hired man for different families on farms in and around the Wilmington and Spring Grove areas. Enster was a dairy farmer and also worked for 13 years as a Dairy Herd Improvement Supervisor. Last year, after 34 years on the farm, Enster and Gertrude sold their farm in Wilmington Twp and moved to Spring Grove. He was an avid sports enthusiast, both watching his grandchildren play and watching his favorite team, the Minnesota Twins, always attending in person when able. He also loved visiting with friends and family. Enster was a member of Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove where he had been treasurer and was on the church council. He had also been treasurer for Farm Bureau and involved in Corn Husking competition, placing third. Survivors include his wife Gertrude; one son, Keith (Carolyn), Spring Grove; three daughters, Gwen (Jon) Allen, Mabel, Carol Arneson (Don Schatz), Cresco, IA, and Lois (Randal) Poshusta, Calmar, IA; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Byron in 1972, his sister Martha Garness, his brother-in-law Clarence Garness and his step-brother Robert Wiste. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Elizabeth Stempinski will officiate.
