Posted: 7/1/03 Donald SherburneDonald Verdell Sherburne, 68, of Spring Grove died Friday, June 27, 2003. He was born November 21, 1934, in Spring Grove, to William and Norma (Quinnell) Sherburne. He was baptized in Black Hammer, rural Spring Grove and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. He attended Houston Public Schools. He was a lifelong Spring Grove area resident. On March 27, 1954 he married Joan Geving in Black Hammer. He was Mayor of Spring Grove and had served on the Spring Grove city council for a combined total of 21 years, he had been a volunteer fireman, a member of the Spring Grove Lions Club, and a member of the Economic Development Association. He had worked at Spring Grove Bottling Works, Sunbeam Bakery, Sanitation Service, he raised turkeys, and had presently been employed by Pederson Brothers in Harmony. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Don loved his wife and family, his grandchildren were his pride and joy, he enjoyed following them in sports. He loved his work and was very proud of his truck. He enjoyed camping, golfing, going for Sunday drives and visiting with people. Survivors include his wife, Joan of Spring Grove; his mother, Norma of Spring Grove; two sons, Michael (Carol) and Kim (Doris) of Spring Grove; one daughter, Terri (Todd) Oakes of Jordan, MN; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Virgil (Dianne) of Houston, Dale (Debbie) of Mound, MN and Neil (Cindy) of Hamilton, IL. He was preceded in death by his father. Services were held Monday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Robert Stoskopf officiated. Friends called Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Hall and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
