Eitzen plans big celebrationPosted: 7/1/03 It may be little, but the town of Eitzen knows how to celebrate in a big way, and will prove it this Thursday and Friday at the annual Fourth of July Family Fun Fest. Nearly everyone in Eitzen gets in on the action in some capacity, but the driving force behind the event is the Eitzen Lions Club, which uses funds raised to support a number of worthy causes. Events Thursday evening include a tractor pull by Tri-State tractor pullers, and a softball tournament. Throughout the celebration there will be food and refreshments available. Events on the Fourth begin bright and early with breakfast, which will be served starting at 6:30 a.m. The flea market opens at 8:30 a.m. The Grand Parade begins at noon, and is preceded by a kiddie parade. There are many events for children throughout the day Friday, including a pedal pull at 9 a.m., Country Cousins petting zoo, which opens at 11 a.m., and following the parade there are kids games, Kaptain Kirby Train Rides, and entertainment by clowns ìTwinkle and Hugs.î A sawdust pile will beckon treasure hunters beginning at 4 p.m. near the food stand. Kids will also enjoy ìinflatable fun showsî during the festivities. A Demolition Derby at 1:30 highlights activities on Friday afternoon, and the unique and exciting Combine and Mini Van Demolition Derby begins at 7:30 p.m. Both events are free for children under 10. The championship softball game begins at 8 p.m. The Lions will hold a drawing for a new Harley Davidson at 9:30, and the eveningís events will be capped off with an exciting display of fireworks beginning at 10 p.m. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
