Margaret Driscoll

Margaret Bridget Driscoll, 83, of Winona, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at St. Maryís Hospital, Rochester.

Margaret Bridget was born on April 19, 1920 in Caledonia to James Cahill and Mary Cecilia (Dunn) Driscoll. She attended rural elementary school and Loretto High School in Caledonia, graduating in 1937. She graduated from St. Teresa College in 1941 with a B.A. Degree. Following four years as a social worker in public agencies, (Faribault and Mower Counties) she enrolled at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. where she obtained a Masters Degree in Social Work in 1947. For the next five years she was employed by Olmsted County Human Services as a Social Work Supervisor. In 1952 Margaret accepted a similar position with Catholic Charities in Winona, and in the next 26 years held a variety of titles as the agency expanded.

She became a member of the Social Work faculty at the College of St. Teresa in 1978, and taught in the Social Work Program until 1987 when she retired. Throughout her years in Winona she also served as ancillary adjunct faculty at WSU and St. Maryís University in social work programs or related fields. Margaret was also a social work consultant to the Semcac staff, area nursing homes, Community Memorial Hospital Social Work Department, and other agencies following her years at Catholic Charities.

Margaret was active in various community activities and had a special interest in services for the developmentally impaired of all ages. She served on various related boards, including Home and Community Options, and others. She was a member of St. Maryís Parish and long term volunteer at St. Anne Hospice. She was a member of Westfield Golf Club, the Senior Friendship Center, Wise Women and other community organizations.

Survivors include cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two younger brothers, James Paul and Eugene, and cousin, Donald Hildahl.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 25 at 2pm at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Winona, with Father Keefe officiating. Interment is at the Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
