Raymond ìTatî Sires

Raymond G. ìTatî Sires, 87, of New Albin, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. Tat was born in Dorchester, IA, on September 10, 1915 to James and Sarah (Hahn) Sires. Married to Gladys Zarwell on June 24, 1940 at Waverly, IA.

Tat began his career as a fuel distributor on June 1, 1946, which continued until the time he died. For 57 years he played Trumpet for the ìTyroliansî dance band. He was a life member of the American Federation of Musicians. Tat was a veteran of WWII and life member of the New Albin VFW Post #5603. He served in city government for 45 years, 22 years of which he served as mayor of New Albin.

He is survived by four children: Joel (Sharon), New Albin, Lynn, Houston, Jan (Mary), Boulder, CO, and Jane Young, Dresbach; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Forrest Sires, New Albin.

Tat was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, on April 20, 2000 and six siblings.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, at Grace United Methodist Church in New Albin with Rev. Steven Campbell officiating. Burial will be in New Albin City Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post #5603.

The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.
