Kiffmeyer addresses Project 540 RendezvousPosted: 6/10/03 Minnesota Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer on May 15 met at the University of Minnesota with high school students participating in Project 540. Visiting with Kiffmeyer at the event were Allen Frauenkron, of Hokah and Jessica Lind and Chantel Frickson, of Houston. Project 540 (the idea behind the name is that a 540 degree turn is a revolution and a half) gives 100,000 high school students nationwide the opportunity to talk about issues that matter to them and to turn conversations into real school and community change. The rendezvous showcased visionary school civic action plans that make recommendations for cultivating and supporting student civic participation and reaffirmed the importance of involving youth in local, state, and national dialogue. ìIt was a real pleasure to be able to meet with the Project 540 students and to learn about their projects. Their enthusiasm for their projects rubbed off on me, and I had a hard time tearing myself away from them,î said Kiffmeyer. ìThese students are becoming well-prepared to take active public leadership roles well into the future,î said Kiffmeyer. I really appreciate seeing their active citizenship at a young age.î ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
