Model Ts heading to Caledonia

Posted: 6/3/03

Itís a fortunate coincidence that a caravan of Model Ts will be coming through Caledonia this weekend, the same weekend as the annual Founders Days celebration. And Jane Schiltz, who coordinated the visit by the Model Ts, has been a longtime organizer of Founders Days. The convergence of the two events ensures an exciting weekend in Caledonia!

The 43 Model Ts that will be coming through town started their 3,000 mile journey in Lancaster, California, and are on their way to Dearborn, Michigan, to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ford Motor Company. They expect to arrive in Michigan June 12.

The Model Ts will arrive Saturday night, and will sight-see in the area Sunday. At 5 p.m. Sunday, an historic photo from 1912 will be recreated at the corner of Main and Kingston Streets. The photo was set up when a group of Spring Grove residents and visitors from a ìHalling lag,î a gathering of folks who hailed from the Halling area of Norway, came to Caledonia for a visit. The photo that will be taken this year will include a number of vintage cars as well as the Model Ts.

Following the photo, the public is invited to a turkey dinner at the Four Seasons Community Center, followed by entertainment by the Four Dads and a talk on ìInside the Outhouseî by Pastor Ron Nowland.

For a complete listing of Founders Days events Friday through Sunday, see the special section in this issue.

For dinner reservations, please call Sandy at 725-3479. St. Maryís youth are serving the meal.
