Mildred Kjome

Mildred J. Kjome, 91, Spring Grove, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.

She was born March 24, 1911, in Spring Grove, to Andrew O. and Ida (Tweeten) Kjome.

Mildred graduated from Spring Grove Public School, and Teachers Training Dept. (fondly known as Byron College). She taught for seven years in ungraded elementary schools in Houston County (Dist. #23, #72, and #97 in Reno). She then attended W.S.T.C. (Winona), and earned a Bachelor of Education Degree. In 1951, she graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Master of Education Degree. Her teaching experience include Spring Primary in Spring Grove, Chatfield and Owatonna, as well as Sioux City, IA. In 1944, she began teaching in Winona Public Schools, retiring in 1973.

She was an active past member of Central Lutheran Church in Winona and was presently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.

She is survived by on sister-in-law, Doris Kjome of Spring Grove; one nephew; four nieces; eight great-nieces and nephews and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Williams and Harriet Strand; and one brother, Andrew Kjome.

Services will be held Thursday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial will be in the Trinity Church Cemetery. Pastor Robert Stoskofp will officiate. Friends may call Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is in charge of arrangements.
