Election results contestedPosted: 3/25/03 The results of a Money Creek Township election, in which township residents voted 141-89 against allowing the issuance of Sunday liquor sales licenses within the township, has been contested by Eleanor Coulson, who prior to the election had filed a liquor license application with Houston County and has plans to set up a bar and grill within the township. Coulson alleges that the election violated Minnesota polling laws in that election officials intentionally ran out of ballots, an election official and/or other persons in the polling place remained in the polling place to tell people to vote against the proposition, campaigning was allowed to take place and people were allowed to congregate within 100 feet of the entrance to the polls, and people opposed to Sunday liquor sales were allowed to remain in the polling place throughout the election to intimidate voters. Notice of Election Contest was filed by Coulson with the Houston County District Court on March 17. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
