Orestes Archibald Qualey, 91, of Spring Grove, MN, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove. He was born February 14, 1912, in Lanesboro, to Gerhard and Clara (Loftesgaarden) Qualey. His mother died when he was very young, so he was raised by his grandparents in Spring Grove. Orestes was a Lanesboro High School graduate. On June 14, 1933, he married Olga Claussen and she died in October of 1975. Orestes drove truck and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad, first as a security person and later as an engineer. He bought a farm in the late 1950s and retired in 1974. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. He is survived by two daughters-in-law, Bonnie (Douglas) Poulter, Ferryville, WI, and Carol Gold, Costa Mesa, CA; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold Baldwin Qualey, Baraboo, WI. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gerhard Owen Qualey in 1991, and John Douglas Qualey in 1986, also two sisters, Rogna Held and Charlotte Kjos. Services will be Thursday, March 6, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Robert Stoskopf will officiate.
