Cattle chase, thefts keep officers busy

Law enforcement authorities responded to a report of several cattle loose within Caledonia city limits on February 26. Five NFO cattle had gotten free and were roaming the vicinity of North Hokah Street, according to Caledonia Police.

Four of the cattle were captured by authorities, but after numerous attempts to recover a 1300-pound heifer with an injured leg proved unsuccessful, the animal was put down by Caledonia Chief of Police Duane St. Mary and Houston County Deputy Luke Sass.


Stolen vehicle recovered

Kenneth Witt of Houston contacted Caledonia Police on February 27 to report that his Dodge Shadow had been stolen from behind Green Power Equipment Inc. on State Hwy. 76.

The vehicle was recovered the same day, according to Caledonia Police, and two juvenilesñ a 13-year old male and a 14-year old femaleñ have been named as suspects in the case.


Items missing from Hokah home

Two shotgun barrels and a laser range finder were reported stolen on March 2 from the residence of Mitchell Sheehan on Ridgeview Road in Hokah. The Houston County Sheriffís Office has placed the matter under investigation; no further information was available.
