Road construction follows winterPosted: 3/4/03 by Andrew Miller Though sporadic sub-zero chills wrought havoc on area roads this winter, motorists can put morbid fears of potholes to rest as construction crews spruce up county highways this spring and summer. In order to prep for paving in 2004, CSAH 3 between Gavin Road and Weinbender Road will be graded and will receive an aggregate base. Construction is tentatively scheduled for April, and two separate detours will be set up as the project proceeds. When CSAH 3 is closed east of CSAH 24, a detour along Jefferson Ridge heading towards New Albin will be set up. When construction west of CSAH 24 is underway, the detour will run along CSAH 249 through Freeburg and into Brownsville. CSAH 3 just outside Caledonia, between CSAH and Gavin Road, will receive bituminous surfacing starting in June. The gravel put in place two years ago will be paved and the road will remain open, but will be reduced to one lane until construction is complete. Motorists can expect delays on CSAH 20 beginning in June as crews pave the road from the State Hwy. 44 junction to three miles east of the junction. The road will be reduced to one lane and flagmen will direct traffic. CSAH 22 from the State Hwy. 76 junction to just south of Badger Hill will also receive pavement starting in June. As with CSAH 20, the road will be reduced to one lane and flagmen will direct traffic. A new bridge will be erected over Winnebago Creek on CSAH 5. The bridge in place, the last bridge in Minnesota before the Iowa state line, is a one-lane, metal truss bridge measuring 70 feet in length. The new bridge will be two lanes, concrete, and 120 feet long. Construction is tentatively set to begin in May. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
