Posted: 5/20/03

Renee Mooney and Shar Schroeder, teachers at St. Maryís School, were named the recipients of the 2003 Matilda Becker Awards for Excellence in Teaching.

The awards are given annually to two teachers at St. Maryís School who have, over the past year, been outstanding examples of excellence in teaching.

Mooney has been a seventh and eighth grade science and math teacher at the school since 1996.

ìRenee is an incredible teacher who is the role model every junior high student should have,î said St. Maryís Principal Gail Trocinski. ìShe gives so much of herself that students know how much she cares about each one of them. Reneeís belief in students comes across in everything she does.î

Schroeder, a kindergarten teacher, has been with St. Maryí since 1998.

ìShar is a fantastic kindergarten teacher, and makes kindergarten a truly fun learning adventure,î Trocinski said. ìShe always makes sure that each child feel his or her own importance in the group, and she is always busy updating her curriculum so that students are always excited to get to school and ësee what comes next.íî
