Highway 16 construction Open House in HokahPosted: 5/27/03 The Minnesota Department of Transportation is hosting an open house Wednesday, June 4, to share information on the next stage of the Highway 16 bridge replacement and reconstruction project from Hokah to Highway 26. The open house will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Hokah Fire Hall. The public is encouraged to attend anytime between these hours, as no formal presentation will be given. Fact sheets, detour maps and Mn/DOT project staff will be available to answer questions. Beginning Monday, June 9, Highway 16 will be closed from about 900 feet west of Highway 44 to County Road 7. At the same time, Highway 44 will be closed from Highway 16 to about 600 feet south. The closure is needed so crews can grade and reconstruct these two roadway segments. Crews also will install sanitary sewer, water mains, sidewalk, curb and gutter. During this phase of the project, Hwy 16 and Hwy 44 through traffic will be detoured onto the following routes (see map): ï Hwy 16 traffic detoured via Hwy 76 (Houston), Co. Rd. 9, Co. Rd. 21, Co. Rd. 25 ï Hwy 44 traffic detoured via Co. Rd. 18 and Hwy 26. Local access will be maintained on these segments in Hokah, but no through traffic will be allowed between Co. Rd. 18 and Co. Rd. 7 in Hokah through Friday, August 22, 2003. When this segment of the project is completed, Hwy 16 and Hwy 44 through traffic will revert back to the existing detour of Co. Rd. 7 and Hwy 26. The entire project should be completed by late November 2003.
