Hazel Whitlock

Hazel V. Rogich Whitlock, 86, of Caledonia, died Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at Good Samaratin Nursing Home, Preston, MN. She was born September 7, 1917 in Spring Grove, MN to Knute and Maude (Cater) Kieland. She married Louis Rogich, Sr in Caledonia and they later divorced. She married Ralph Whitlock March 6, 1971 in Caledonia and he preceded her in death August 20, 2001.

Hazel was very involved with the community. She was founder of Eager Beaver Wheelers Bike Club and was involved with the 100 mile bike ride. She operated Hazelís Home Hostel in Caledonia for many years and enjoyed the company of many visitors from various different countries. Hazel was also a den mother and started a girl scout troop in Caledonia after WWII. She opened her house to many neighborhood children and was known for her barbeque sandwiches. She loved flower and vegetable gardening and was well known for her beautiful flower beds. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ankerson, Preston; four sons, Erling (Sharon) Rogich, Milwaukee, WI, Donald (Kathie), Caledonia, Robert (Lorna), La Crescent, and Jerry (Rose), Seattle, WA; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, three sons, Louis Jr., Joseph and David, a sister, Esther Wheaton, and a brother, Erling Kieland.

Services will be Tuesday, November 11, at 11 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Elizabeth Stempinski will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call from 4-8 pm Monday at McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia. Friends may also call from 10:30 am to 11 am before the service at the church on Tuesday.
