Saylor Wheaton

Saylor P. Wheaton, 86, of Caledonia, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at The Lutheran Home, Caledonia. He was born April 14, 1917 in Caledonia to Paul and Emma (Lee) Wheaton. He married Helen Heintz in Caledonia in 1943. She preceded him in death in 1998.

Saylor worked on the family farm and then worked as a meat cutter in Spring Grove for several years. He found his niche with soil conservation and he worked for the Houston County Soil Conservation for many years. After his retirement he volunteered many hours at the conservation office. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his pet cat, daily morning visits at the Redwood Cafe, and driving his John Deere lawn mower.

He is survived by a daughter, Janet Wheaton; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister Doris Grindland of Lanesboro; and special friend, Marvella Kohlmeyer.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Beth and a sister, Helen.

Services were held at 2 pm, Sunday, November 9, at McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia. Rev. Tony Fink officiated and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends called from 1 pm until the time of service at the funeral home Sunday.
