Posted: 11/12/03 George DresselhausGeorge Henry Dresselhaus, 97, of Lansing, IA, formerly of McGregor, IA, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing, following a brief illness. He was born on May 31, 1906 on the rural Dorchester, IA farm of his parents, Henry and Elizabeth (Wenig) Dresselhaus. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lukeís United Church of Christ in Eitzen where he remained a life-long member. His father died when he was six and he moved to Eitzen where he attended school. From the age of 12 he operated the family farm where he raised beef cows, pigs, and chickens. In August of 1934 he married Irma Wiemerslage at her parentís farm. They farmed together until her death in 1972. In June of 1978 he married Evelyn Regan Wild at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and moved to McGregor. He has been a resident of Thornton Manor in Lansing since 1999. George loved farming and living the rural life, visiting with his neighbors and friends. He enjoyed fishing and doing some traveling with his family and was particularly fond of spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Evelyn of McGregor, IA; two sons, Bob (Jean) Dresselhaus of Lewiston, and Norman (Beverly) Dresselhaus of New Albin, IA; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Irma and two sisters, Florence Martin and Clara Paus. Services will be held Friday, November 14 at 11 am at St. Lukeís United Church of Christ in Eitzen, with Rev. Wayne Lura officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
