Posted: 11/17/03 Emily EllestadEmily Ellestad, 96, of Spring Grove, MN, died Saturday, November 15, 2003, at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove. She was born January 20, 1907, in rural Spring Grove, to Ole and Othilia (Moen) Myhre, and was a lifelong Spring Grove area resident. She was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian language at the Blackhammer Lutheran Church of rural Spring Grove. She attended rural school. She worked for a short time at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. In October of 1926, she married Neuman Ellestad, he preceded her in death on December 18, 1993. The couple farmed in Wilmington Township and later moved to Spring Grove. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove and its womenís groups and was also a 50 year member of the Spring Grove Sons of Norway Lodge. Emily is survived by two sons, Mervin (Shirley) Ellestad of Spring Grove and Donald (Marie) Ellestad of Caledonia; three daughters, Ione (Mervin) Quinnell, Dorothy (Bradlee) Karlsbroten and Norma (Jennings) Johnson, all of Spring Grove; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Milton Myhre, Spring Grove; two sisters, Luella Wiemerslage and Palma Holland, both of Spring Grove. In addition to her parents and husband, Neuman, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Orlando, Rudolph and Kenneth, four sisters, Genette Rosaaen, Olive Bergsrud, Anna Doely and Barbara Burtness and a daughter-in-law, Norma Ellestad. Services will be Wednesday, November 19, 11 am, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Zane Anderson will officiate.
