Mariece Schultz

Mariece A. Schultz, 90, of Minneiska died Friday, November 14, 2003 in Wabasha. She was born August 19, 1913 in Brownsville, the daughter of William and Florence (Brown) Corcoran. She attended one year of college at Winona Teachers College in Winona. She taught in rural schools in Houston County for three years before her marriage. She married Frank Schultz on May 21, 1935, at St. Patrickís Catholic Church in Brownsville. After her marriage, she continued to teach part time. Together they owned and operated Schultzís Lunch in Minneiska for 44 years. In 1975 they sold the business and retired. Mr. Schultz died January 20, 1982.

Mariece was a very active member of St. Maryís Catholic Church in Minneiska, where she taught religious education classes for many years. On her 80th birthday she received a medal from the Bishop of Winona for all her years of teaching. She also was an active member of St. Annís Society, enjoyed quilting and sewing for charities, playing cards, baking cookies, and being with her family.

She is survived by sons William (Mary), Rollingstone, and James (Marlene), Houston; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Forschler, Brownsville, Rose (Jack) Corbett, Bettendorf, IA; nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Dick and Jackie Swanson.

Her husband and two brothers, Francis and Leo Corcoran, preceded her in death.

Services were held on Monday, November 17, 10:30 am, at St. Maryís Catholic Church in Minneiska, with the Revs. Michael Cronin and Joseph Keefe officiating. Interment was in St. Maryís Cemetery.

Friends called on Sunday, 5-8 pm, at the church in Minneiska, where there was a prayer service at 7 pm.

Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements.
