Raymond Paus

Raymond Louis Paus, 87, of Waukon, died Monday, November 24, 2003 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a brief illness.

Raymond Louis Paus was born on July 24, 1916 on the rural Dorchester, IA farm of his parents, Walter and Emma (Wiemerslage) Paus. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lukeís United Church of Christ and attended the rural ìHarmony School.î He began farming with his parents, but later returned to school and graduated from the School of Agriculture in St. Paul, MN in 1949. On March 26, 1949 he married Delores Meiners at St. Lukeís UCC in Eitzen. They farmed together in the rural Dorchester area for many years, operating a dairy, raising pigs and chickens, and working the fields. In addition to farming, Ray hauled canned milk for 15 years and worked as a security guard for Northern Engraving in Waukon for over 30 years. Since 1989 Ray and Delores have lived in Waukon.

Ray was a former council member at St. Lukeís United Church of Christ where he was a life-long member. He enjoyed traveling with his family throughout the country and particularly enjoyed spending his 80th birthday in Germany. He also liked fishing, baseball games and was an avid reader.

Survivors include his wife Delores of Waukon; three daughters, Sharon (Dan) Cunningham and Lynette Paus, both of Waukon, and Charlene (Elroy) McConnell of Prairie du Chien, WI; a son, Loren Paus of Dorchester; four grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Fruechte of New Albin, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Glenda Paus; a granddaughter, Kristi Cunningham; and a sister, Roma Paus.

Services will be held Friday, November 28 at 11 am at St. Lukeís United Church of Christ in Eitzen with Pastor Paul Burgess officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 pm Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
