Edwin Ostlie

Edwin Oliver Ostlie, 79, of Eau Claire, WI, died Saturday, October 11, 2003 at Sacred Heart Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer for over three years.

He was born April 16, 1924, the son of Adolph and Mable (Hammer) Ostlie in Lakeville, MN.

He served in the 283rd Ordinance Ballistic and Technical Service Detachment of the U.S. Army during World War II as an Artillery man and Technician 5th Grade. Edwin spent 14 months of his 26 month military service in the European Theater. He received the Good Conduct Medal, several service medals and three bronze stars. Edwin married Ruth Myhre, daughter of Ole and Louise Myhre, on April 16, 1948 in Lakeville, MN.

He graduated from the Academy of Accountancy in Minneapolis and then became a contract price administrator for the Defense Department of the federal government.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons Dennis (Mary) of Rice Lake, and Darryl of Minneapolis; two daughters, Tricia (Mel) Stone of Anoka, and Renee (Scott) Roemhild of Fall Creek; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Ray (Aletta) Ostlie of Burnsville, and Russ Ostlie of Lakeville; two brothers-in-law, Oren and Leland Myhre and two sisters-in-law Irene Rostvold and Gertrude Haugstad; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 14 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary F. Sahs officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post #305.
