Woman sustains serious injuries in car accident

Paulette Lynn Chamberlin, 43, of Caledonia, was taken to St. Francis Medical Center by the Caledonia ambulance after her car went off the road on Hwy. 76 near Staggemeyer Stave Co.

The accident was described as a ìserious injury accidentî by the Minnesota State Patrol. It occurred on Saturday, October 25 at about 6:30 p.m.

The vehicle was northbound on Hwy. 76 when the crash occurred.

As of Monday, October 27, Chamberlin was in the intensive care unit at St. Francis Medical Center.

The incident is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.

Other vehicle accidents

Stanley Norman Larson, 55, of Lansing was involved in a one-vehicle accident on Saturday, October 25 at 5:58 a.m. It occurred at the junction of Hwy. 26 and Hwy. 16. He had minor head injuries.

Cheryl Olson, 40, of Caledonia was involved in a one-vehicle accident located on Hwy. 16 outside of Hokah. The accident occurred on Thursday, October 23, The vehicle was found tipped on its side in a ditch. Three children were with Olson at the time. No injuries were reported.

Combine hits deer

Five vehicle versus deer accidents were reported last week in Houston County.

Dean Myhre, 59, of Caledonia reported hitting a deer with his combine on Wednesday, October 22.

Randy Shefelbine, 47, of the Houston County Sheriffís office struck a deer at the bottom of Schauble Hill on Hwy. 44 with the squad car he was driving. The accident occurred on Saturday, October 25 at 6:13 a.m.

Jaymie Lee Solum, 26, of Spring Grove struck a deer on County Rd. 4 three-and-a-half miles west of Houston. The accident occurred on Friday, October 24, at 6:15 p.m.

Kenneth Bakewell, 58, of Hokah, reported striking a deer on County Rd. 7 on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:35 a.m.

Steven Moldenhauer, 42, of Houston, reported hitting a deer on South Road near Houston on Monday, October 20 at 8:10 p.m.


Vandalism reported at Caledonia Elementary

Caledonia Elementary reported vandalism to its property Monday morning, October 27.

Several strips of sod located by the new playground had been rolled back and a metal fence post was used to damage the back receiving door

District #299 Superintendent Jim Tool said damage to the door was superficial and will be fixed when the weather is warmer. The sod has also been relaid.

ìIf we got some rain, that would probably help with that,î he said.

More vandalism

A person reported that on Saturday October 18, at 3:00 a.m., while their vehicle was parked at a gas station in Caledonia, someone ripped off the head ornament on the vehicle and keyed the front half of his vehicle.

A Houston resident reported that the rear tires of their truck had been flattened. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 26.

Theft

A bank in Houston County reported they are investigating the possibility of counterfeit cashier checks.
