Highway 16 at Hokah open; ribbon cutting Wednesday

Posted: 10/28/03

A new and improved segment of Highway 16 from Hokah to Highway 26 reopened to traffic Thursday afternoon, October 23.

The roadway had been closed since July 2002 so crews could replace four bridges and install five large box culverts. The $12.3 million investment also includes a wider, smoother roadway; improved wetlands; and new city water main, sanitary sewer, curb, gutter and sidewalk.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation, city of Hokah and Houston County representatives will cut a ribbon on the Root River bridge in Hokah Wednesday, October 29, to officially commemorate the opening.

The ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m. Mn/DOT District 6 (Rochester) District Engineer Nelrae Succio will present a certificate of appreciation to the city in the Hokah Fire Hall after the ribbon cutting. Mn/DOT thanks residents and commuters for their patience and cooperation during the highway construction project.
