Safe and Sober ëMini-Waveí coming Friday

The Winona County Safe and Sober program focused on impaired drivers during an enhanced enforcement campaign October 17-18, 2003.

A total of 43 vehicle were stopped during 20 hours of the enforcement wave. Patrols from the Winona County Sheriffís Department, and police departments from Winona, Goodview, St. Charles, and Lewiston contributed to this project.

ìIt was a good opportunity to make contact with the public while stepping up the enforcement visibility,î said Lewiston Police Chief Ken Bradford.

Some of the enforcement contacts included: two seat belt citations, 11 speed warnings, 11 speed citations, and two DWI arrests. Other violations are interest included one minor consumption and one zero tolerance violation.

The next Safe and Sober event will be a Halloween Mini Wave on October 31, 2003, which will focus on impaired driving and pedestrian safety.

Safe and Sober is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and designed to reduce traffic crashes and injuries through education and enforcement.
