Posted: 10/31/03 Janice V. FredericksonJanice V. Frederickson, 70, of Spring Grove, MN, was born December 6, 1932 in Newell, IA to Clarence and Gwenna (Walker) Hadenfeldt. She died Thursday, October 30, 2003, at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN, after a 5-year courageous battle with cancer. She was a Storm Lake, IA high school graduate of 1950 and attended college at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and South Dakota State College in Brookings where she graduated in 1955 with a Home Economics and Dietetics degree. On August 8, 1954 Janice married Dennis Frederickson in Storm Lake. Early in their married life she worked as a dietitian at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin and at Grand Meadow and Harmony nursing homes. While living in Mower County, she was instrumental in starting the first County Home Health Aide Service in the State of Minnesota. Janice was a MN State Master Gardener for 21 years who loved gardening. One of her many joys was starting and nurturing seeds in her basement. Water gardens were one of her specialties. She was a member of several garden clubs throughout her lifetime and also served as Secretary and President of the Minnesota State Horticulture Society and was a board member for several years. Janice was a member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Spring Grove. She was involved in Womenís Ministries, on flower and decorating committees and helped with several Christmas and Easter programs. She was a registered Girl Scout for 51 years and worked as a Field Director and Adult Education Director at the Girl Scout Council of River Trails in Rochester and also served on the Board of Directors of River Trails and Peace Pipe Girl Scout Councils. Different summers she could be found as the Day Camp Director at Whispering Hills, Edith Mayo and at the Olivia, MN day camps. Most recently Janice was volunteering on the G.S. Memorabilia Committee. Janice is survived by her husband Dennis of Spring Grove, their son Scott and his wife Lita of Mabel, daughter Denise Bulman of La Crescent, son Gary and his wife Kristin of Winona and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Vance and his wife Adah Handenfeldt of Storm Lake, IA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence on Jan. 24, 1986 and Gwenna on Sept. 15, 1980, and by her son-in-law Steve Bulman and her grandson Travis on June 9, 2002. Services will be held Monday at 1 pm, November 3, at Calvary Evangelical Church of Spring Grove. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pastors Ray Caldwell and Gordon Larson will officiate. Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 pm at Calvary Evangelical Church, Spring Grove and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
