Posted: 10/6/03 Lyle HartmanLyle Gordon Hartman died Monday, September 22, 2003, at home in Landenberg, PA. He was born January 28, 1933, to Hazel Belle and Carl Frederick Hartman on the family farm in Hokah, MN, in the house built in 1895 by his grandfather Frederick Hartmann. Lyle married Nancy Eleanor Mulder of La Crosse, WI, on August 14, 1954, in La Crosse. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956. He attended Army Security Agency Morse Code Interceptor School at Fort Devens, MA. After his marriage, he was stationed in Bavaria, Germany, for 14 months with his wife, Nancy, serving as an interceptor in the Armyís listening post. He received his bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1960 with distinction. He then worked as a D.W. Onan research assistant at the university as he pursued his masterís degree in the same field, which he received in 1962. He lived in Hockessin, DE, for 33 years before moving to Landenberg, PA, in 1996. He worked at Hercules, Inc. as a development engineer from 1962 to 1967. From 1967 to 1971, he worked at the University of Delaware in the Department of Statistics and Computer Science as an instructor and lecturer. From 1971 to 1985, he was at the University of Pennsylvania, first as NSF Science-Faculty fellow in Computer and Information Sciences and later as the director of the Moore School Computing Facility in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. In 1985 he founded Information Consultants, Inc. of Hockessin, a family owned business from which he retired in 1999. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents; and his sisters, Ardelle Miller and Eloise Lee. He is survived by his sons, Bradley, Santa Monica, CA, and Michael (Donna Bissey), Wilmington, DE; a daughter, Beth (Lee Maas), Florida, NY; four grandchildren; sisters, Betty Rosse, Winona, and Anita Palmquist, Houston; and nieces and nephews. Services were held Sunday, September 28, 3 pm, at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, DE. Graveside services were held Saturday, October 4, at 11 am in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hokah, with Rev. Scott Skogen officiating.
