Ruth Hern

Ruth V. Hern, 84, of Duluth, MN and formerly of Caledonia, MN died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at St. Lukeís Hospital in Duluth. She was born November 10, 1918 in Black Hammer, MN, rural Spring Grove, MN to Bernt and Gena (Granvold) Johnson. She had also lived in Hibbing, MN in addition to Duluth and Caledonia. She married Elias ìLeftyî Hern, in Arkansas, he preceded her in death.

She was a seamstress for Woodland Industries in Caledonia, retired in 2000 and moved to Duluth to be near her family. Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Ruth is survived by her son, John (Kathleen) Elias Hern of Duluth; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Olaf, Herman, Henry and Gerhard; and four sisters, Regina Duxbury, Myrtle Kroshus, Alice Meyer and Emma Espelin.

Services will be Tuesday, September 16, 10:30 am, at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-7 pm at the Roble Funeral Home and one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday.
