Poaching reported in Houston County

On Sunday, September 14, the Houston County Sheriffís Office received a report of three younger people shooting a deer in a field on Beaver Road. The suspects were seen driving a 1990s white Pontiac Grand Prix. This also happened last week.

Poachers can be fined up to $245 and be ordered to pay restitution. Also, at the time they are caught, the poacherís guns and automobiles can be confiscated. The judge can also take away their driverís license.

Rewards for poaching can range from $25 to $250 depending on the severity of the crime.

Accidents

On Monday, September 10, at 6:05 a.m., Milton John Welscher, 78, of Caledonia, was found deceased in his vehicle in the ditch on County Road 3 on the hill outside of Caledonia.

On Saturday, September 13 at 11:49 p.m., a Houston man reported finding a vehicle crashed in his cornfield in the construction zone on Hwy. 16.

DWI

On Thursday, September 11, Michael Fisher, 21, of La Crescent was arrested for third degree DWI after his vehicle was found on its side on County Road 7.

Rochelle Henry, 32, of Spring Grove faces charges of misdemeanor DWI after showing up intoxicated at a residence at 4:10 a.m. Monday, September 8. According to the report, Henryís car had run out of gas on County Road 11 and she had walked two miles to the residence.

Thefts

On Thursday, September 11, the Farmerís Elevator in Spring Grove reported the theft of Anhydrous Ammonia that occurred during the night. According to Spring Grove Police Chief Paul Folz, a small quantity appeared to be taken using a rubber tube and other home-made or store bought materials. Other evidence was also collected at the scene.

Anhydrous ammonia, commonly used as a fertilizer, is also used in making methamphetamine. Folz said he did not know if that was the purpose for the theft. Anyone having information regarding this theft can call the crime stoppers line at 507-725-5122.

On Friday, September 12, the Spring Grove Police received a report of the theft of money from the car wash in Spring Grove and also of a car wash hose being damaged.

Domestic Assault

On September 14, at 2:39 a.m., Brian Childress, 25, of St. Paul, Minnesota was arrested for domestic assault in La Crescent.

On Sunday, September 7, at 10:40 p.m., a Houston resident called 911 to report finding a man sleeping in their backyard on their childrenís swing set.
