Marvin Diersen

Marvin John Diersen, 85, of Caledonia died Saturday, August 30, 2003, at his home. He was born July 11, 1918, in rural Caledonia to Herman and Alvina (Burmester) Diersen. Marvin served his country for four years in the U.S. Army during World War II. On May 15, 1949, he married Irma B. Ranzenberger. Marvin spent his entire life, until his retirement, on the family farm located on Jefferson Ridge.

Marvin was active as a member or director in many organizations that supported and promoted farming, Farmers Union, DFL, AMPI, to name a few. He was a member of both Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eitzen, MN, and St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran Church in Caledonia, and he served on various church committees. After his retirement in 1982 from farming, he and Irma moved into Caledonia.

Marvin enjoyed wood-working and kept busy making furniture and frames for family and friends. He worked as groundskeeper for a number of years at the Houston County Fairgrounds. He also enjoyed gardening, doing yard work, playing cards and taking long walks.

Survivors include his wife, Irma of Caledonia; his children, Linda Diersen of Baltimore, MD, Lola (Dale) Werner, Bonita (Dick) Giesler and David (Sharon) Diersen, all of Caledonia, and Mary (Herbert) Colsch of New Albin, IA; and nine grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Fremont, Arlin and Wilbert ěJakeî Diersen.

Services will be Thursday, September 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran Church, Caledonia. The Rev. Jon Wolff will officiate. Military Honors by the Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post 191 and the VFW Houston County Post 3833, both of Caledonia, will follow the service. Private family burial will be at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Eitzen at a later date. Friends may call at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
