Special to The Argus

The Prom Committee of Caledonia High School Class of 2005 has planned a night of elegance for Prom 2004 on May 1.

The theme is ìTonightís Dreams, Tomorrowís Memories,î and the gym will be transformed into an elegant garden. The song is ìWhen You Say Nothing At All,î sung by Alison Krauss.

Traditionally prom is attended by juniors and seniors. Others may attend, but only as a guest of a junior or senior. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. only for those holding reservations. The dance will be from 8:00 to midnight. Prom participants must be in the building by 8:30.

Beginning at 10:00, spectators may attend by paying an admission fee of $1.00. Spectators will be asked to remain in the commons area until 10:15. A Grand March will begin at 10:30. This is the first year to have a Grand March at Caledoniaís Prom and we look forward to honoring the prom participants at this special event. Coronation will immediately follow the Grand March.

Prom is a formal school dance, and therefore formal dress is required. For the boys; a tuxedo, dress suit, or sport coat is required as well as dress pants and a dress shirt along with a bow tie or neck tie. For the girls; a formal dress or gown is expected. Dress shoes are also required. Tennis shoes or athletic shoes are not acceptable for any participants. Sunglasses will not be allowed during the Grand March.

The junior class has selected five girls and five boys to represent their class as Prom Royalty. They are Vanessa Augedahl, Dayva Diersen, Kirby Fitzpatrick, Gina Houdek, Angie Ideker, Justin Conway, Kevin Engan, Matt Hammel, Josh Kruckow, and Kyle Welscher.

The King and Queen will be crowned at the dance following the Grand March. The Prom Committee chose four freshmen to be Prom Servers to assist throughout the evening; Lynn Bauer, Emily Welscher, Drew Hammell and Kaleb Schmitz.

The Prom Committee has been working very hard in preparing for this big event. The class officers are President Cortney Lager, Vice President Emily Schmitz, and Treasurer Molly Wittry. They have put an enormous amount of time in to make this a memorable Prom. Thank you to the entire committee and others who have helped make this a night to remember.

Following the school dance, the Project Prom Committee (parents of junior and senior class members) has organized a substance-free post-prom party providing games, food, prizes and entertainment for the high school students. Many donations from businesses and individuals have been received to make this post-prom event a success. We would like to encourage the juniors and seniors and their dates to participate in this safe and exciting event.

Prom dress code spelled out

A letter to parents that was sent out on April 26 spells out rules for the prom. People not dressed appropriately will not be allowed in. Here are the guidelines.

Girls: Formal dresses or gowns are expected. Bare stomachs or bare midriffs are not considered appropriate. See-through apparel and gowns with slits that are above the mid-thigh area are not permitted. Garments that are extremely tight or extremely low cut are also unacceptable. No sunglasses during the Grand march.

Boys: Formal prom attire is a tuxedo, sport coat, or dress suit, with bow tie or neck tie. Shirts are to be worn while in any public building. Undergarments should not be visible. Tennis shoes and jeans are unacceptable. No sunglasses during the Grand March. High school principal Cory Klabunde said the prom dress code is designed to ìprevent possible situations. We want more of an elegant night.î
