Posted: 4/3/04 Gale BuxengardGale R. Buxengard, 82, of Caledonia, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the Lutheran Home, Caledonia. He was born May 16, 1921, in Caledonia to Oscar and Grace (Pope) Buxengard. He graduated from Caledonia High School in 1939. Gale served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during WWII from 1942 to 1946. When he returned to Caledonia he worked at the Caledonia post office and eventually became Postmaster in Caledonia until his retirement in 1980. Gale married Helen Burns August 21, 1958 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Caledonia. He was a 50 year member of Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post 191 and Houston County VFW Post 3833, and a member of the United Methodist Church, Caledonia. He enjoyed photography, astronomy, stamp collecting and fishing. He is survived by his wife Helen of Caledonia; three sisters-in-law, Edy Burns, Caledonia, Wilma Burns, St. Charles, and Esther Limper, Yuba City, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Bob and Bill Burns. Services will be Tuesday, April 6, at the United Methodist Church, Caledonia. Rev. Tony Fink and Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia.
