Sylvia Gaustad

Sylvia Alma Gaustad, 88, of Owatonna, MN, died Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at Tweeten/ Lutheran Health Care Center in Spring Grove. She was born May 3, 1916, in Spring Grove, the daughter of Theodore and Annette (Blexrud) Ness. Sylvia married Orvin Gaustad, May 17, 1932 in Houston. They lived in Spring Grove until moving to Owatonna in the fall of 1952. She worked as a cook in the food service department at the Owatonna Public Schools. Sylvia then worked at Truth Tool for many years.

Sylvia served as a 4-H leader, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its altar guild and the Trinity Campers; a member of the Joy Homemakers Club; a Golden member of the Sons of Norway. She was a generous blood donor to the American Red Cross, traveled throughout the United States and had made a trip to Norway, and loved to do volunteer work and gardening.

Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Adell (Don) Twite, Burnsville, Shirley (Gene) Kulzer, Maplewood, and Beverly (Harrington) Bryce, Silver Spring, MD; sons Wayne (Linda) Gaustad, Park Rapids, and David (Karlyne) Gaustad, San Diego, CA; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother Clarence Ness, Spring Grove; and two sisters, Hilda Johnson, Minneapolis and Helen Holte, Caledonia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Services were held Saturday, August 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Louisa Fure officiated. Friends called at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and at the Church on Saturday one hour before the service. Burial was in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.
