Arkansas man released from jail; La Crescent man challenges burglary charges

An Arkansas man who is charged with making terroristic threats was released from the Houston County Jail on August 23.

Third District Judge James Fabian released Rickey Edward George, 40, on his own recognizance.

George faces two other misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct over an incident that occurred on August 10 in which George allegedly made a threat by telephone against his childrenís foster parents.

He pled not guilty on August 23 to the two lesser charges, and did not enter a plea on the terroristic threat charge, which is a felony.

His attorney, public defender Kurt Knuesel of Winona, has requested an evidentiary hearing.

George faces three other charges: fifth degree assault and disorderly conduct on July 7; no Minnesota drivers license on July 22; and violation of harrassment restraining order on August 9. No new court date has been assigned for him.

Probable cause challenged

In another case, Odell Thompson, 19, appeared in court on August 25 for a Rule 8 hearing.

Thompson, who lives in La Crescent, is charged with first degree burglary, a felony; fourth degree burglary a gross misdemeanor; violation of domestic abuse no contact order, a misdemeanor; and obstructing the legal process, a gross misdemeanor.

They are based on an August 12 incident in Caledonia in which Thompson allegedly broke into a home and confronted an ex-girlfriend who had filed an order for protection against him.

Thompson had to be brought to Houston County District Court on August 25 from La Crosse County, where he is in jail on unrelated charges. His attorney, public defender James Schultz of Houston has filed a written demand for an omnibus hearing. Schultz is challenging probable cause on all four counts.

Thompson had posted bail from the Houston County Jail.
