Merlin Egland
Merlin L. Egland, 60, formerly of Houston, MN died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Merlin was born November 18, 1943 in LaCrosse, WI to Lyle and Ruth (Larson) Egland. He graduated from Houston, MN, High School and Trinity College & Seminary, Deerfield, IL. He went to California as a youth pastor and met his wife Lois; and they were married June 19, 1971.
He pastored churches in Hancock and Morris, MN and Elkader, IA for 20 years before joining the Central District of the Evangelical Free Church as a Church Planting Pastor for 10 years prior to going on disability. He enjoyed his family, family history, music, crossword puzzles, paint by numbers, helping people and especially serving the Lord in ministry to people. Heís known for his good sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife Lois of Caledonia; a daughter Melissa (Jay) Marschall, Caledonia; three grandchildren; four sisters; Janet (Trygbe) Knutson, Joan (Paul) Wiste, Sherry (Stan) Wiste, Laurie Egland, all of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother Fran.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 9, at the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Houston. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church. Rev. Dan Grueneich and Rev. Jim Olson will be the officiants. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston.
