Farmhouse Gifts opens in time for Christmas

Mary Hauser and her daughter, Sara Cordes, have part of their new business open to the public.
The two are in the process of turning a 1920 home at 219 North Kingston into the Farmhouse Eatery and Gifts. But converting a private home into a public place means a lot of changes, especially when serving food is involved.
So while the restaurant portion of the business is under construction, the upstairs has been completed and is ready for Christmas with a variety of country, folk art and primitive gifts and home decor items. Thereís even a room that features wood toys, puzzles and books for children.
Mary said that she and Sara knew when they first stepped foot in the house that it was right for the business they were planning. Although it has always been a home, it sits on land that is zoned commercial, so it was a good fit with their plans.
When it became apparent that the restaurant would not be ready, the two decided to open the gift portion of the business. They will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily until Christmas.
Last Saturday, December 11, was their first day of business and they were happy with the turnout. ěPeople are pretty excited about it, itís uplifting to see that,î said Mary.
The restaurant will be open sometime in January. Watch The Argus for details.
