Stolen car found burned near Reno

A car that was stolen in Shelby Township in La Crosse County was discovered on a state trail near Reno on December 20.

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources worker Valiree Green found the car, which had been destroyed by fire.

Houston County Sheriffís Department deputies were able to find the vehicle identification number after calling the manufacturer of the 1991 Honda.

That information allowed them to identify the car as one stolen in Wisconsin on December 9.

It apparently was driven down the state trail from Hillside Road west of Walter Kueblerís farm, then went off the state trail between the upper and lower Reno campgrounds.

St. Maryís Towing of Caledonia had to back about one-half mile down the trail from the north to tow the burned-out vehicle away on December 23.

Accident in Cork Hollow

In other sheriffís department news, three people were injured in a single car accident at about 4:30 a.m. on Monday, December 20.

The vehicle, driven by Stephanie Palen, 18, was going west on Cork Hollow Road when it went off the left side of the road and into a ditch and through some small trees and brush.

Palen and two passengers, Lindsey Baumgarter and Chelsey Snodgrass, both age 18, were taken by Tri-State Ambulance to two La Crosse Hospitals, where they were treated and released.

All three will receive citations for minor consumption violations.
