Second man pleads guilty in meth case

Levi John Jones, Harpers Ferry, Iowa pled guilty on December 1 in Third District Court to one felony count of manufacturing methamphetamine, a controlled substance.

The crime was related to a methamphetamine bust in rural Eitzen on September 19, 2003.

Two other charges against Jones, possession of methamphetamine; and tampering with anhydrous ammonia, were dropped in a plea agreement,

Jones, 20, will be sentenced on January 3, 2005, at 11 a.m. in Third District Court.

Four other men were arrested for their involvement in the methamphetamine lab in a trailer house a few miles outside of Eitzen.

One of the men, Tod Spencer Weston, 40, pled guilty on July 30 to one felony count of manufacturing a controlled substance. Weston was sentenced on September 13 to 43 months in jail; 28-2/3 months will be served at a state correctional facility, and 14-1/3 months will be on supervised release. He is credited with 359 days for time previously served.

The three other men charged in the case are Ronnie Lee Shefelbine, Caledonia; Theodore J. Hawver, Spring Grove; and Thomas Alvin Monson, of Spring Grove. Their cases are pending.

These three men are charged with three felony counts including first degree manufacturing of a controlled substance and liability of crimes of another; possession of methamphetamine; and tampering with anhydrous ammonia.
