Settlement reached for one juvenile in gun theft case

A settlement was reached on December 1 with a 15-year-old Caledonia male who was charged with second and third degree burglary and theft of firearms on October 6.

The settlement also included charges that the juvenile faced in Goodhue County of receiving stolen property, and multiple charges related to the gun thefts.

Under the plea agreement, the male pled guilty to one count of burglary in the third degree, a felony; and one count of misdemeanor theft.

Sentencing will be held on December 13 in juvenile court in Caledonia before Judge James Fabian.

Houston County Attorney Suzanne Harnack said on December 3 that she is working on settlements for two other juveniles involved in the incident, a girl age 15 and a boy age 13.

The three youths were arrested in Goodhue County on October 1 after driving off from a gas station in La Crescent without paying.

A check of the vehicle identified it as one that had been stolen from a residence in Caledonia. In the car were two shotguns, a rifle, and a pistol, all allegedly stolen from a Caledonia home on September 30.

The youths were each charged in Houston County with burglary in the second degree, a felony; burglary in the third degree, a felony; and four separate theft of a firearm charges, each of which is a felony.

The names cannot be made public because they are under the age of 16.
