Juvenile faces burglary, assault charges

16-year-old John Michael Luhman of Caledonia will appear in court today, February 11, at 1 p.m. to face burglary and domestic abuse related charges.

Luhman has spent the last week in Many Rivers Correctional Facility, Rochester, after being arrested for breaking into the residence of a former girlfriend and interfering with a 911 call.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at about 7:00 p.m.

Luhman went to the residence and wanted to be let into the home. After being refused, he kicked in the back door and entered her residence. An argument ensued and the victim attempted to call 911. According to the complaint, Luhman prevented her from using the phone at two different times.

Police were called after he left.

Luhman spent the night at the Houston County jail.

He is being charged with two counts of first degree burglary with a maximum penalty of 20 years and/or $35,000; one count of second degree burglary with a maximum penalty of 10 years and/or $20,000; two counts of interference with a 911 call with a maximum penalty of one year and/or $3,000; and one count of domestic assault with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and/or $1,000.

Luhman is being represented by public defender James Schultz.
