Sesquicentennial banners available for adoption

Posted: 2/17/04

The Sesquicentennial Committee has ordered a quantity of new streetlight banners to promote the cityís sesquicentennial year. The new blue banners feature the cityís recently adopted Scottish Coat of Arms showing icons of the four seasons of the year and the words, ěCaledonia A City For All Seasons.î The committee is interested in finding businesses, individuals and/or families willing to adopt a banner. Banners will be attached to streetlight poles on Main and Kingston Streets in the downtown area in March and will be displayed throughout the sesquicentennial and later years. Two sizes of banners are available for adoption. The smaller banners, 18''x36'' are available for $70 each and the larger banners are priced at $90 each.

The Scottish shield, featured on each banner, was designed by Allan (A.J.) Moore, a recent Caledonia High School graduate, and was registered in the Office of the Heraldic Authority of Scotland by Dr. Alan Fleischmann. Said registration authorizes the Officers of the City Council of Caledonia, in the County of Houston, the State of Minnesota, in the United States of America, to adopt the Coat of Arms to the City as both sign and seal to be used without challenge, protestation, appropriation, or controlment hereafter. That this seal is original and proprietary to the civic offices of the City of Caledonia and is to be used in accordance with the laws of arms.

Anyone interested in adopting one of the banners should contact Dianne Schuldt at the Community First National Bank, (507)724-3371.
