Posted: 1/16/04 Helen SchuttemeierHelen L. Schuttemeier, 80, of Caledonia, died Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at Franciscan-Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse, WI. She was born February 15, 1923, in Winnebago Township, Houston County, to Walter and Ida (Meitrodt) Thiele. Helen is a 1941 graduate of Caledonia High School. She then attended Cosmetology School in Minneapolis. On May 25, 1943, Helen married Walter C. Schuttemeier at St. Lukeís United Church of Christ in Eitzen and they celebrated 60 years of marriage this past year. Helen worked as a hairdresser for 50 years in Caledonia and had two daughters and a granddaughter follow her in the profession. She was a life-long member of St. Lukeís United Church of Christ in Eitzen where she served in many capacities. Helen enjoyed getting together with many friends and relatives to play cards. She was a wonderful cook and hostess. Helen will be deeply missed by her husband and ìthe girlsî. Survivors include her husband Walter of Caledonia; four daughters, Marion (Ronald) Nerstad, Spring Grove, Loretta (Herman) Willger, Waukon, IA, Nanci Collins, Burnsville, and Brenda (James) Westby, Mabel; nine grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Walter Beneke, Caledonia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara Headington, Burr Oak, IA, Bill (Arlene) Schuttemeier, Spring Grove, Fremont Schuttemeier, Eitzen, and Lucy (Ernie) Schmitz, Cashton; and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Margaret Beneke. Services will be Saturday, January 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Lukeís United Church of Christ, Eitzen. Rev. Paul Burgess will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
